Associate Consultant

Dr. Ralph E. Grubb joined Rycat in 1995 after a distinguished twenty-seven year career at IBM.  In addition to working with Rycat, he is Senior Consultant for the Academy for Educational Development (the Educational Facilities Laboratory), a non-profit organization devoted to research in educational organizations and facilities design, located Washington, DC.

Dr. Grubb was a pioneer in computing and educational technology at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY.  He has held numerous technical management positions in education in the U.S. and Europe.  He was responsible for the design and implementation of instructional spaces, systems, and networks at IBM's Corporate Technical Institutes at Thornwood, NY; the A. K. Watson International Education Centre, La Hulpe, Belgium; and the IBM Australia Education Centre, Sydney, Australia.  He was also consultant to the design and operation of the IBM Executive Education Center, Palisades, NY, and the IBM Education Centre in Hong Kong.  In addition, he served as consultant to IBM's advanced instructional technology projects worldwide.   Most recently, he was Education Advisor to IBM’s Corporate Director of Education and helped formulate the company’s strategic plans and programs for education.

During recent years, Ralph has been consultant to Motorola University for the design of a wired campus and satellite network; IBM on international education program development and evaluation,  and on customer education programs; Corning, Inc. for educational staff development and the design of a new corporate education center; KPMG for the creation of a distance learning network and curricula; BMW for the design of instructional programs for a satellite network; Cornell University, School of Engineering for new satellite television programs in instructional technology; and the Office Technology Assessment of the U.S. Congress for analyzing training in the workplace.

Dr. Grubb completed his doctorate in psychology and education at Columbia University and has been Adjunct Professor of Education there for more than a decade.  He has served on the Board of Trustees for both the Institute for Distance Learning at Regents College, the State University of New York, Albany; and at the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester.  During his service at the University of Rochester, the school conducted its experiment on education reform through the National Center on Education and the Economy.  He has authored more than two-dozen publications on the topics of education technology, networks, and learning, and serves as a consulting editor for the International Journal of Machine Mediated Learning.
